old motorcycles are and always have been, in my mind, how motorcycles should look. almost all the bikes from the 60’s and 70’s are not only visually appealing but sound and run in a certain way that new motorcycles can’t. now don’t get me wrong, new bikes are great too (all bikes for that matter as long as the owner is happy with them), but something about older motorcycles just works for me.

there are drawbacks though. although alot of these old bike can still run like a top 40-50 years later and hardly need anything except an oil change and regular maintenance, some do need a lot of attention (constant tuning, hard to find parts). things like this can make you miss out on a lot of perfect days of riding, turning the average sane man into gary busey. in this particular video, andy is moving so we had to finally finish fixing willie’s bike. we spent the whole day in the garage, but what truly made it worth it was seeing willie be able to roll his bike out and finally ride it down the road. in my opinion, this is what makes old bikes worth the effort. your riding something that is truly rare, something you don’t see on the road very often, something that in a lineup of new bikes its more likely people would stop to check out yours instead. i get excited every time i see another old bike on the road because it means that there are other people out there that feel the same way as me.

overall, garage time can make you crazy but it all becomes worth it the moment you get the first blast down an open road. nothing to worry about, nothing to stress over, just you and your machine.
